it is quite cold here.
the wind has been blustery.
and i have had hats on my mind.
for new ones come together,
i have been searching for the ‘perfect’ hat.
cozy warm, a well formed brim, snug fitting on top, and
‘a good knit’ (not feeling oh so very bored halfway through).
the search netted these
which are currently the top 2 on my
mental ‘favorite hats to knit of all time’ list:
1st, norah gaughan’s ‘sprouting cloche‘ from the book ‘brave new knits‘.
this is a tricky one, a challenge.
it is charted.
it is funky.
it is knit flat.
it is seamed.
it is fabulous.
the fact that
i had just enough
‘pur‘ left over after
my ‘eternalism vest’
(knitscene‘s winter/spring 2011),
means this hat has
piles of personal memories
twisted up into each stitch. smile.
the ‘hat most likely to succeed‘ was the other gem i unearthed.
it is the best fitting hat i’ve ever knit.
the decreases are so right on
and though i was a bit skeptical about
the variegated malabrigo working with the cables,
just waiting for
the cold to
really
get
bitter
so i can
roll the thick
ribbed brim down
all the way over my ears.
oh so nice.
and the next hat
on my list to ‘conquer’
is this one,
in yet another brightly variegated colorway from punta yarns.
‘cold’ taken from 25:20 in the proverbs.
