in our drafty old
hometown church
the deep, shuttered windows
are like shadow boxes
this time of year.
the families take turns
doing the decorating.
this is the 1st year
that my 14 yr old
was old enough to have
her very own window.
backyard sticks,
‘fire pit’ stones,
a tin whistle,
l.e.d. lights strung up,
an old family cane,
grandma’s sheep,
a Christmas tree star,
and a hand written note
said all she wanted to say.
