my favorite summer memory:
sitting in warm tidal pools that we dug ourselves
while making drip sand castles in the late afternoon sun.
and no, this is not a childhood memory. it was just this past summer. smile.
‘sand’ taken from 139:17-18 in the psalms.
There are so many memories of vacations at our trailer, with our four boys, and my brother’s family across the way. Watching the seven cousins off on a hike, our oldest at thirteen, with the littlest, my nephew Ian, two and a half on his shoulders, and the others hopping dawdling and holding hands as they followed Jay and Ian into the “wilderness” of our campground. This is a dear memory of mine, now that all these cousins are grown. Some of them still vacation at that campground, borrowing uncle’s canoe and building their own memories.
The beach looks nice, especially since I’ve been surrounded by ice and snow for so long. It has been melting lately, but still here.
Phoebe’s Birthday looks like a great book. I’d love a copy and the knitting patterns on ravelry are so nice too. I have a daughter who would enjoy both.
So cute!!!!! The girls look like they are having a lot of fun.
Hmmm, my favorite summer memory. It’s nice that there are so many that I have to rack my brain to figure out the best. I enjoyed a run I went on last summer in the woods. The trees canopied the trail, but the sun managed to peek through and dapple the path with its radiant light. I remember the sound of my breath as my feet hit the forest floor and propelled me deeper and deeper into the lush grove. The rhythmic movement of my body and breathe fostered a profound sense of peace that engulfed my entire being and allowed me to transcend myself and become part of the beauty that surrounded me.
Thinking of a best summer memory was a fun activity. I feel like I’ve already won. Thanks, Tal 🙂
Summer time to me is always going to have that Christmas holiday feeling to it no matter what county I am in. Santa always gave the standard issue when I was a kid, new swim suit, new blow up float toy for the beach, new beach towel, just because that was a New Zealand summer. Christmas day BBQ’s with minted lamb chops and a good old hamburger with a slice of beet root (beets) slid right on in there. The sun beating down and begging my dad to turn the lawn sprinkler on so we could cool down. Plan “B” was always to tie a garden hose to our neighbors tree and jump on the trampoline while we were showered in water. That is a true New Zealand Summer.
wow, that is so different than what we are used to here in Massachusetts! It sounds wonderful. I love that Santa had a “standard issue” gift. Do you think you will ever take your girls for a New Zealand Christmas?
Ice cream after a long day at the parc!

When my youngest son was 6, we went to Ecuador to spend Thanksgiving with my parents. My son spent an hour in the early morning chasing little red crabs that were out by the hundreds trying to feed. We thought they were red seaweed until we saw them scurrying all over the place.

My favorite vacation moment was the first time we took our daughters camping in the Colorado mountains. That first night they both fell asleep in our laps looking at the sky, because the could see so many stars. Lovely memory.
My fave vacation memory is the first time we took our son to the beach. He loved the sand and water so much he didn’t want to leave. Its bittersweet because Hurricane Sandy destroyed the shore so I won’t be having that same experience with my daughter this year.

Our favorite must be the summer we introduced our first baby to the sea. It was his first trip to visit his grandmother in Charleston, SC. We were convinced he would be, at 11 months, his usual cautious self with something new. It was love a first sight! Before we knew it, he was up to his waist in the water and sat down happily to feel and taste everything within reach. It still makes us laugh! And he still loves the beach.

I think my favorite summer memory would have to be the birth of my daugher, in July. She’s an IVF baby, and we lost twins a year and two days before she was born. I was on bed rest for most of my pregnancy with her, so we were just so relieved when she made it, and she is the best part of our lives. She also loves Phoebe’s birthday and tells me she’s turning six this summer like Phoebe (instead of three, as she really will be). If we win, we can stop hogging the library copy. 🙂 She wants me to make the yellow birthday dress for her, and I’m thinking she needs a little Phoebe mermaid, too. Soooo cute. Love the whole thing.
As recent as it may be, my current favorite vacation memory is our trip to Maine last September. It was our first BIG vacation with a toddler in tow and even though we had to miss out on some of the usual kayaking, boat rides, etc…there was nothing that could be walking the summit of Cadillac Mountain and having our daughter walk it with us :). We’re big hikers in our family and this was the first trip she was able to hike along with us with her own two feet instead of just in the carrier. Slow and steady but we made it and it was a blast! ~ScarvesEtc on Ravelry
So very hard to pick I adore any time I get to spend with our grandkids, swimming, camping, hiking, playing in the park, making mud pies or forts in the bush!!!!!
One of my favorite vacation memories is sitting on the porch of a beach house we rented on the cape, looking out at the ocean , while drinking coffee and watching the Sun rise. My nieces would love this book and I’d love to knit them one of the tops in the book.
