every night at bedtime papa reads stories.
last night’s pick was ‘how the grinch stole Christmas’.
when the books chosen are ‘rhyme-y’ (as dr. seuss always is)
papa likes to leave off the endings and let our kids fill in the blanks.
so when he read:
“and his fib fooled the child. then he patted her head
and he got her a drink and he sent her to ____.”
our youngest called out ‘bed!’
“and the one speck of food that he left in the house
was a crumb that was even too small for a ______.”
again the youngest spoke up,
and i snapped the above pic just as he said,
‘big, loud dinosaur that makes a sound like this grwoar!‘
ha.
and somehow to say, ‘no, it’s mouse‘
felt like too big a letdown (even for us grownups)
so papa said, ‘you know, i like your word better,’
the smile on our kid’s face was priceless,
while papa and i both felt the tingling
as our hearts “grew three sizes”.
I wonder if papa will always read that story with little guy’s version now? I would! It would become part of family lore and joint fun. Hope it does at your house too! Merry Christmas to you, Tal, and to your family.
blessed Christmas to you and yours, samm!
and not sure papa will ever get through the book again without at least smirking about that line. the other 3 kids had gone out to see a play with my parents, so no-one else heard it, but i surely plan to fill the others in on what they missed! smile.
There’s no way Papa will ever read that story again without remembering. I love little kidlets and their take on things can be so precious. Or funny! Hope the big kids enjoy the story as told by little brother. s
they so did! smile.
