my 15 yr old knows.
when i stand at the bottom of the stairs and call up to her,
‘hey jo, can i have your help for just 10 minutes’,
it means i just
caught
a glimpse of the sun
hovering at the treeline,
thinking about
calling it a day.
‘we have about
20 minutes, and then
that gorgeous light
will be gone’, i say.
she knows this, too
because i have said it to her before.
patiently, she comes down (well, patiently for a 15 yr old girl) and
lets me dress her in my cozy coat, place ‘riles’ on her head and fiddle with her hair.
then out we go into the yard.
the last time we did this
we climbed up into the kid’s platform fort.
it was nearly a miss, but we caught the light.
i’m so happy with the dusky look of these photos.
the combo of the light
and the glow
and the muted colors
is exactly what
i envisioned
for this pattern.
thanks for helping
me out, baby girl.
i really appreciate it.

OOOOH!!!!! This looks like a good fair isle for me to learn from! I wonder if I have enough stash yarn to make this? Very pretty. All the colours of your photo background are in the yarn. 🙂 I like this one a lot!
that’s what i thought was so perfect about the light, that it was making everything look the colors of the hat. and this isn’t really fair isle. it’s only one color per round, but it would give you a feel for having more than one yarn attached to the knitting at a time and for carrying the strands up the inside in a column. i’m knitting my second one now with a phydeaux mini set from my lys that has pinks and grey. different and still very fun.
Yes! I saw when I bought the pattern that it was a slip stitch design. 🙂 Equally interesting to me. I love knitting hats with techniques new to me. They aren’t as daunting as trying something new on a whole big sweater! I need to stash dive…. maybe this afternoon while husband is out. LOL
Belle Toque! My Daughter and I both also love light, white being our favorite colour.I often dream as God is the light of the Heavenly temple (Revelation 21:23-“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof”)
,how lovely God will be,and the light with all its glorious effulgence will be astonishing,Im really lookin’ forward to that scene, anyway light and all it’s forms reminds me of God,and I liked your blog and the cool hat! our family sends Peace and prayers to yours.
